A Little History
Fairfield County maintains a rich history of organized cattlemen’s groups. In the late 40’s and into the 60’s, the organization was known as the Fairfield County Cattle Feeders.
After little activity for several years, Stan Smith, Program Assistant at OSU Extension in Fairfield County initiated an effort to recreate an active local cattlemen’s organization. With the help of Jim Gibson of PLA and Bob Pontious, local cattleman, the group was reorganized into the Fairfield County Cattlemen’s Association in March of 1988. Bob Pontious served as president of the new organization the first year.
